Massage Therapy for Children
At Hands On Healing Arts we offer Massage Therapy for Children .
Although one may not immediately think of Massage Therapy as appropriate for children, unwinding is just as important for them. Children naturally "play hard" and "sleep hard", achieving better balance than most adults. However, there are times when that equilibrium is thown off balance. For this reason we offer two techniques that are used with children worldwide, and movement is the key to both. Clients remain fully clothed.
CranioSacral Therapy may be beneficial for all clients of ages, including infants. Very light pressure and traction are used, roughly the weight of a nickel. The goal is to create more space for movement along the spinal column and between all of the bones in the skull. Although these bones move in a manner that is barely measurable, their immobilization caused from birth or other traumas can be profoundly debilitating.
Neuromuscular ReEducation utilizes movement and traction (stretching) as a means of providing therapy that is deep on a structural level yet very relaxing. The child is not told to lie still while a therapist "works" on him/her. Instead, the therapist induces movement, finding the right rhythm and speed that is relaxing for each individual, allowing the nervous system to "let go" of the muscle tension. Children usually smile immediately because they are experiencing the type of movement toward which they are naturally inclined when playing. Sometimes we even us balloons as pillows!
