Geriatric Massage Therapy

MassageElderly.jpgAt Hands On Healing Arts we are happy to offer Geriatric Massage Therapy.

The state of health for the older population varies greatly from person to person. Special consideration should be given to geriatric massage therapy patients. Our lighter techniques, like CranioSacral Therapy and Neuromuscular ReEducation, are safe, comfortable, and very effective for clients who are concerned with arthritis, fragile skin, or bone and tissue loss. Those who are nearly as fit at age 70 as they were at age 40 may explore the variety of services we offer. All techniques listed may be modified and applied with greater sensitivity to meet your needs.

Chair Massage , which focuses on the neck, back and shoulders, provides a great introduction to the benefits of Massage Therapy without concerns for modesty.

CranioSacral Therapy is very gentle and may be received while fully clothed. Try this technique for low back pain, headaches, or if you need deep relaxation. CST may be combined with Swedish Massage or Neuromuscular ReEducation.

Deep Tissue Massage is an option for those in better shape. If you exercise daily and have not lost any muscle mass, there is no need to drop Deep Tissue Massage from your list of therapies.

Neuromuscular ReEducation is the ideal technique for any age and may be received while fully clothed. The movement involved is very relaxing and works on a deep level without pressure. It may also be combined with CranioSacral Therapy or Swedish Massage.

Reflexology is a special technique applied only to the hands and feet. The extent to which your whole body relaxes during a hand and foot massage is amazing!

Reiki Energywork, the gentlest technique offered at Hands On Healing Arts, requires little or no pressure. The practitioner's hands may softly rest on the body or work a couple inches above the body within the client's field of energy.

Swedish Massage is an option for clients who have not developed very delicate skin. The pressure involved may easily be adjusted, and massage oil is nourishing for dry skin.

Thai massage may be a bit challenging for clients who are not very active. However, the gentle stretching may be very beneficial for elderly clients. For a gentler session, a modified form of Thai massage may be comfortably incorporated with other techniques received while on the massage table.
