Thai Massage
Massage originated in India over 2500 years ago, with its roots drawing from Ayurveda. Sessions are received on a special mat on the floor with the recipient wearing loose, comfortable clothing. Two primary procedures are utilized.
First, the practitioner, following a standard protocol and rhythm, applies pressure with the hands, feet, and thumbs, leaning slowly into the client’s body. Rather than focusing on specific muscles, the therapist follows energy (Sen) lines, analogous to Chinese Meridians and Indian Nadis, affecting pressure points along those lines. In addition to benefiting sore muscles, the surrounding tissue is supported, as well. The result is a feeling of overall balance. Second, the practitioner moves the client through a variety of gentle, passive, Yoga-like stretches. Most clients are surprised to discover just how flexible they can be while simply relaxing. Although this technique is preferred by athletes, one need not be athletic nor have any prior experience with Yoga in order to enjoy this type of massage.
Benefits of Thai MassageIn addition to the benefits of Massage Therapy in general, one may also expect these benefits from a Thai Session:• Adjustment of the skeletal structure • Increased flexibility • Relief of muscular and joint tension • Stimulation of internal organs • Balance in the body's energy system • Increased energy AND relaxation
Sessions are available for 60 minutes, 90 minutes, or as part of a 90 minute Combo with Swedish Massage (45/45).
